It is with regret announcement is made of the passing of former commissioner Cecil Shackelton.
He entered the Roosevelt Fire Department on April 20, 1982.
He served as Fire Commissioner from January 1984 - December 31, 1998.
A lasting contribution was the introduction of Pyrocap to the Roosevelt FD in the nineties and continues to be used today.
Commissioner Shackelton also served in the FDNY where he received the Hugh Bonner award, one of the department's highest awards for valor in 1962 and invented the "Approved Fire Escape Window Gate" a locking device that enables windows on fire escapes to be open from the inside without the use of a key.
