After serving in Company offices, Bob was elected an Assistant Chief, then elected to the office of Chief of the Department in 1970, serving 1 year. In 1983, Bob was elected to his 2nd term as Chief and was reelected in 1984. After the elected Chief and 1st Assistant were unable to serve, Bob was appointed acting Chief of the Department by the Board of Fire Commissioners in 1988 serving as Chief through 1989, for a second 2 year term.
Bob then ran for the office of Fire Commissioner in 1991 and was elected to his first 5 year term.
In 1996 Bob was elected to his 2nd 5 year term, serving through 2000.
Bob spent almost 40 years working for Sanitary District # 2 of the Town of Hempstead, which he joined in May 1961, rising to the level of supervisor before retiring in January 2001.
Shortly after retiring, Bob moved to Anthem, Arizona where he eventually joined the Daisy Mountain F.D as a volunteer member of a career department where he was a very active member of the department’s CERT Team.
Bob passed away on March 28, 2018
